Healing Through Horses Since 1981

Founded in 1981 and incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2001, Equi-librium provides unique and accessible equine-assisted services to individuals of all ages with physical, developmental, and behavioral challenges, as well as those who have experienced trauma. Equine--assisted services provide benefits to individuals that are physical, cognitive and emotional. Equi-librium is one of only eight PATH International premier accredited centers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the first to offer therapeutic carriage driving as well as riding.

Participants in Equi-librium's programs come from all backgrounds with varying degrees of cognitive, physical, behavioral, psychological and sensory disabilities. Primary diagnoses include autism, ADD, ADHD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, cancer, cerebral palsy, depression, developmental delays, down's syndrome, intellectual disabilities, MS, muscular dystrophy, OCD, ODD, Prader-Willi syndrome, sensory dysfunction, spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, stroke, and visual, hearing, or language impairments. Over 75% of participants present with two or more diagnoses.

Equi-librium is nestled on an 18-acre historic farm in Bushkill Township. Over 100 participants join us each week for programs including adaptive riding and horsemanship, therapeutic carriage driving, equine-assisted learning, hippotherapy, and more. In addition to 15 specially trained therapy horses, Equi-librium employs PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors, Equine Specialists in Mental Health and Learning, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and mental health professionals. We also rely on over 200 volunteers each year to deliver program services to participants.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

Equi-librium values collaboration and partnership with local nonprofit organization in the Lehigh Valley and Pocono regions to provide dedicated programming to best meet the needs of our community.

Equi-librium has been the official training center of Team Northampton Special Olympics equestrian team since 2013. Over the past year, we have also partnered with Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley, Bloom, RHD Mainstay United, The Children’s Home of Easton, Community Service for Children, Colonial Intermediate Unit 20, Northampton County Agency on Aging and the Liberty High School Wellness Center, along with various Scout groups, public schools, and 4-H clubs.

Equi-librium continues to expand our outreach through our EITC Ride, Learn and Grow programming as well as our Mobile Miniature Horse Outreach Program. By bringing our miniature therapy horses into schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community events, we educate the public on the role of therapy horses, the healing benefits of therapeutic horsemanship, and healthy lifestyle choices. These miniature horses are a great introduction for children and individuals who may feel intimidated around larger animals. They also allow us to bring many of the benefits of equine-assisted learning on the road across the Lehigh Valley and Poconos.
