Adopt a Retired Therapy Horse from Equi-librium

At Equi-librium, our horses are our most precious and well-loved assets. Equi-librium prioritizes the health and wellbeing of our horses during their active program years and beyond. Through careful conditioning, training, feeding, and herd management, as well as regular veterinary, farrier, and dentistry care, many equines can enjoy a career as a Therapy Horse for years. For some, who have previously engaged in more rigorous work, transitioning to equine-assisted services may even be a step down from their former workload.

However, a beloved horse may be removed from programs at Equi-librium for a variety of reasons, all for the best interest of the horse. Some age out of program or develop age-related health ailments that are not conducive to riding or driving. But for some, equine-assisted services are simply no longer a good fit for their unique needs and personalities.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, community support is paramount in caring for this beautiful animals and allowing us to continue to train and onboard new horses to meet evolving program needs. At times, horses retired from program may be available for outside adoption. Potential homes will be thoroughly screened, beginning with an application and continuing through reference checks and a site visits. Adoptable Horses

Faith

Faith is a 15.1 hand Thoroughbred cross mare who joined the Equi-librium team in 2018. Based on records from former owners as well as veterinary and dental assessments, Faith is estimated to be approximately 25 years old.

Faith is a kind and friendly soul who loves attention. She has been popular in our summer camp program for many years as she held the role of “equine canvas” for arts and crafts; she has thoroughly enjoyed the love and affection from our summer campers and volunteers alike!

Faith was formally retired from program in 2023 and has enjoyed retirement life on the Equi-librium farm. She is turned out with a herd of mares and has done well in both large and small groups with diverse personalities. We believe that the perfect home for Faith would be somewhere where she is loved and doted on with one or more equine friends to keep company.

Faith is adoptable to a non-riding home only. All riding photos below are from 2022-2023, while unmounted photos are more recent. Faith would do best in a home with a stall available and ample access to chopped hay, especially in the winter when grass is not available. She does well barefoot with minimal maintenance.

SUCCESSFUL ADOPTIONS

Sam

Sam joined Equi-librium in 2021 and was retired from program in 2023 after two great years. While Sam enjoyed aspects of his time here - including horse show team and trail riding - he was not keen on the hustle and bustle of an active lesson or therapeutic horsemanship program, and we could tell he would excel both physically and mentally if he had one single person or family to call his own. Thankfully, he found that family with Lead Barn Staff on our equine care team, Brandy Novak! Sam and Brandy have been a pair for over a year, and he couldn’t be happier!

Toby

After years in program, Toby was retired from Equi-librium in 2022 and adopted by the McCutchan family. Toby was retired to his advanced age, and is greatly enjoying life as a companion horse, complete with the occasional pony ride for the grandchildren! Toby is living out his retirement happily and healthily.

Ricky Bobby

After two years at Equi-librium, Ricky was adopted in Fall of 2024. During his time at Equi-librium, Ricky showed us his playful side as well as his enjoyment for trail riding. We knew that the ideal home for Ricky would be one where he would get to do more of what he loved, and we found him the perfect trail home! Ricky even got to dress up for Halloween-themed trail rides this past October!

Sassy

Sassy’s name perfectly matches her personality! While she spent a year at Equi-librium joining Star on school and community visits, this spunky girl made it clear to us that she wanted more out of life! Sassy was adopted by our trusted farrier, Boyd Gannon, to enjoy a future full of grandchildren with as much energy as she has!
